Maria Adamopoulou holds a Bachelor’s of Arts (B.A) in Cellular and Molecular Biology (Microbiology), and a postgraduate Master of Science (M.S) in Molecular Biology with honors, from the Department of Microbiology and Biological Sciences, Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, Illinois, USA.  She earned a Doctor of Philosoghy (Ph.D) degree from the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine.

She is currently working as a lecturer professor and a scientific associate, in the Department of Medical Laboratories, Faculty of Health and Care Professions, Technological Educational Institute of Athens (TEI-ATHENS). She has worked as a training instructor in the Department of Medical and Biological laboratories at the Organization for Vocational Education and Training (OEEK)/IEK, and as a teaching Assistant at the Department of  Biological Sciences, of Southern Illinois University, USA.

She has an extensive research experience in several research programs at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, School of Health Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, field of research interest the precancerous and cancerous lesions of the cervix and the oral cavity regarding various molecular markers (biomarkers), oncogenes and infectious agents. She has collaborated, with the department of Cervical Pathology at the Alexandra Hospital, the Laboratory of Molecular Neurogenetics, at Eginition University Hospital, and the Hormonal Receptors Laboratory of the National Hellenic Research Foundation. She worked as a graduate Research Assistant, at the department of Molecular Biology and Microbiology of Southern Illinois University, Ill. USA, on the oncogenic mechanisms of HPV in cervical cancer.

She has publications in international scientific journals, she has authored the Educational book “Safety and occupational hygiene in Biomedical Laboratories”, Publications PASCHALIDI, 2010. She authored chapters in textbooks and manuals and she has lectures and presentations at Greek and international scientific conferences.

She conducted diagnostic and research work in the field of Biology of Human Reproduction.  She collaborated with Dr. Ann Kiessling, Associate Professor, Harvard Medical School, Deaconess Hospital in the US, and the Reproductive Medicine Unit at Mitera Hospital.

She worked at the Molecular Biology & Genetics Laboratory of the Diagnostic Centre of Biomedical Analysis «BIORESEARCH» in Athens.

She has served as a Vice-president of Administrative Board at the National Centre of Blood Donation (Ε.ΚΕ.Α) and she collaborated with the Minister’ s health office, as a special consultant with main responsibilities on the:

  • Operational optimizations of the National Health Care System with the assistance of the World Health Organization (WHO).
  • Organization and functioning of the National Authority for Medically Assisted Reproduction
  • Executive Committee of CodingandMarkinghealthservicesand productsin the area of health care system
  • Functioning optimization of the laboratory sector in public hospitals
  • Organization of e-Health Forum 2014, within the framework of the Greek Presidency in the European Union.
